  |   Raghubir Chamber

This Royal Chamber pays homage to Major Rawal Raghubir Singh ji of Bissau, the 8th Rawal (Duke) of Bissau. He was instrumental in developing Bissau Palace into a hotel in the 1920s welcoming guests from all over the world. Renowned for its impeccable hospitality under Rawal Raghubir Singh ji, Bissau Palace earned the reputation of being a watering hole for Jaipur's elite including Sawai Man Singh II and Maharani Gayatri Devi who were frequent guests of the house and fondly called him 'George'. The Rawal was a gentleman of exquisite taste as can be gauged by the vast collection of literary works, jewellery and objects d'Art displayed throughout the property.

Rawal Raghubir Singh ji was the only son of Rawal Bishan Singh ji and was adopted into Surajgarh, thus, uniting the two thikanas (fiefdom) into one large thikana comprising of 355 villages, one of the largest in the Jaipur kingdom. He was educated in Mayo College Ajmer and subsequently finished his studies at Oxford. A three time candidate for the Swatantra Party, he was adored by the people and his fellow peers. On 21st Feb, 1932, he married Rani Komal Kumari of Banswara, a princely state belonging to a branch of the Mewar Royal Family. The wedding was a grand affair and evocative of the times with many royalties, nobles and aristocrats attending in their finest attire. During his wedding, Rawal Raghubir Singh wore a sarpech (head jewel) on his turban with a large green emerald in the middle of white pearls. As an ode to this jewel and the Rawal's distinguished personality, we have designed this suite to match the green emerald and to take you back in time to the Rawal's era.

The large suite is located in a quiet corner of Bissau Palace with a view of our vegetable garden. The suite is equipped with 2 double beds which can be adjoined, a separate sitting room, a dressing room with an attached bathroom and antique furniture once belonging to the Rawal Saheb. We invite you to immerse yourself into the history of one of the most renowned noblemen in the Bissau family, Rawal Raghubir Singh ji (George) of Bissau.
